Show Day: Prep List
Take some time to gather inspiration pictures for your desired hair and makeup styles.
If you are considering wearing clip in hair extensions, please order 1 month in advance to colour match. If you are going to have permanent extensions, we also recommend to order a few weeks before or the week before so you can get used to having so much hair for posing.
Schedule your brow waxing and nail appointment for the week before your tan appointment to ensure a flawless look.
Before your tanning session, make sure to wash your hair thoroughly with 2x shampoos and apply conditioner or treatment, focusing on the ends.
For easy styling, blow dry your hair straight.
Pack your competition bag at least 1 week in advance (competition brain is a THING!), ensuring you have all the essentials ready and avoiding any last-minute panics.
Show Day: Makeup & Hair Requirements
Please ensure you arrive with a clean face (NO MAKEUP), and moisturiser as you will already be dehydrated from the comp prep and makeup sometimes doesn’t go on or hold to the skin as evenly as when you are hydrated. We supply lashes as part of your service.
Competition day makeup is an important part of your overall appearance for stage. We carefully match your colour to your dark tan to ensure features are highlighted for stage under the harsh lights.
Please ensure your hair is dry, clean and brushed. We suggest washing your hair the morning of getting your base coat tan with 2 shampoos & conditioner/treatment through to the ends. Blow-dry straight for best possible styling results. We charge an extra $10 for clip in extension application USING YOUR OWN HAIR EXTENSIONS.
The Process: Competition Tan
This tan must be left to soak into your skin for at least 6-8 hours, majority of the time you will be advised to not wash your tan off at all for the best possible results. Only wash your base tan should you severely mark your tan (spill water all over yourself) or your coach advises so.
This stays on all day. This can be done BEFORE or AFTER hair & makeup. This will not be showered off.
If you are competing in body building or physique we also recommend a coat of Dream tan. If we are located backstage we do this for you. If using a glaze for stage we recommend only doing this after pump up as can mark your tan and make it slide off your skin.
Exfoliate your body using a product that will regulate the PH in your skin or even use a soft exfoliation scrub and using an exfoliation mit scrub your body to be careful not to scratch your skin as this will show up on your tan. If waxing we suggest doing so a WEEK or so prior incase of marks.
8-12 hours prior to your spray tan:
Shower but no more exfoliating. Do NOT apply body oils or moisturiser. Shave to remove unwanted body hair.
If you have to shower after base tan:
Shower normally. Do not wash with soap. JUST USE THE WARM WATER NOT HOT and a gentle face washer for your hands if you feel they are too dark. For the first shower, you will see some colour wash away from your skin. Do not be concerned by this, as your developed tan is still there. While you are drying, remember to pat with a towel, not rub your skin.
Packing Your Show Day Bag
For those with comp brain, packing a bag for your competition day takes time, precision, and let's be honest, you unpack and repack it at least five times just to make sure you haven't forgotten anything. However, if this is your first competition, it's hard to know what exactly to pack. Here is a go-to guide of essentials that we think everybody should take on comp day.
1. Robe or Loose Clothing: To wear over your tan to prevent smudging - we sell disposable tan suits.
2. Slides or Slippers: Easy to slip on and off without ruining your tan.
3. Competition Outfit: Double-check you have your bikini, trunks, etc. Posing suits/bikinis - make sure you back them either in a case or labelled plastic clip seal bags so you can keep them free of tan or makeup & keep them organised in your bag especially for those competing in different categories.
4. Jewellery and Accessories: Ensure these are in a separate bag to avoid tangling.
5. Spare Clothing: Extra underwear and clothing just in case.
6. Jumper or Hoodie - it gets cold in the venue.
7. High heels for stage (some people take two pairs just incase).
8. Stage number.
1. Makeup Kit: For any last-minute touch-ups- this includes a lipstick, powder and eyelash glue.
2. Makeup Brushes.
3. Tweezers.
4. Hair Essentials: Brush, hair ties, styling tools and any styling products you may need. Hairspray is always a good idea.
5. Hand Mirror to check yourself before you jump on stage and after eating.
6. Deodorant: Ensure this is FOR AFTER SHOW do not apply before or you will have green armpits.
7. Baby Wipes: For quick clean-ups and refreshing.
8. Ladies, don't forget Girlie products just incase.
9. Glitter spray if you want some extra shine.
10. Girls - She wees are an excellent way to protect your tan.
11. Body Spray and Perfume for post show to cover up the tan smell.
1. Brown Bare Tan Suit.
2. Tan touch up foam or dream tan just in case of spills or leaks. It is easy to apply and simply rub the dream tan or foam over the area then dab with a kabuki brush or makeup powder brush to massage into skin.
3. Tan Mit for patting down the skin.
4. Glaze - glaze or an oil to apply just before you jump on stage incase your tan looks to dry. We sell the Black Magic glaze or otherwise spraying coconut oil/canola oil (coconut at least smells better) on the body just before stage also works (remember spray from a distance you don't want the oil running down your body just enough to make you shiny).
PLEASE NOTE OILS WILL MARK THE TAN SO IF YOU ARE DOING SEVERAL CATEGORIES WE WOULDN'T RECOMMEND USING AS CAN MAKE YOUR TAN RUN BETWEEN CATEGORIES.
1. Towel or Blanket incase you wish to lay on the floor and put your feet up stops tan lines etc.
2. Sewing kit.
3. Scissors.
4. Camera, phone charger.
5. Music/earphones for backstage if you are starting to get nervous.
6. Cash/Eftpos Card.
7. Lipgloss or Paw Paw (You will be dehydrated and don't want your lips sticking to your teeth when you smile on stage).
8. Panadol.
9. Nail file & nail glue.
10. Umbrella.
11. Keep your food and drinks in a separate cooler bag so you don't spill on your bikini/posing suit.
12. Water bottles with squirt tops.
13. Food/supplements.
14. Food utensils.
15. Post show Snacks - YAY for Cookies or Donuts!
